Fall is coming fast! Are you ready for that cool weather?

Fall is coming fast and we are embracing the turn of the weather, planning for a warm hearth and fun fireside stools.

An artist-designer I work with as an art consultant says that since he was a child he has always seen fireplaces as miniature opera stages, a brilliant observation that inspired him to create a fascinating piece of collectible design.

The concept is something like going from this -->

To this.

A marble fireplace

His creation is hand-carved wooden figures staging a dramatic opera scene; ready to burn in a mere few minutes and then you can commission a new order to replace them (if you are filthy rich). Or the little people of the opera scene can simply live in your unused fireplace space (if you are normal rich). And it’s no wonder that fireplaces should spark such imaginings. They are one of the most desired structural focal points in a room and can be designed in any aesthetic and made to command any space. Fireplaces inform the spirit of the space quite substantially, not only because they can be designed in so many beautiful styles, but also because they awaken in us that fundamental feeling of warmth and rest and intimacy.

As autumn is coming at us at a quick pace, we want to dream up the ideal spot to end the day—or spend a few hours—in that place of grace and imagination that the fireplace grants us. I want to look at the fireplace’s best friend: the fireplace stool which invites the imagination to drift to all sorts of places while enjoying the warm flickers of the flames. Special pieces make rooms special, so here we’ll be looking at fireplace stools with animal feet, inspiring the young and the old. Following are my top four animal paw stools to pull up next to the fireplace:

 1. The Lion Paws

Reminiscent of Aslan's wisdom and grandness, this stool adds the charm and quirk of other fantasies. So many stories to be told next to the fireplace.

2. The Horse Hoof:

Ideal for a ranch or equestrian lover, the rusticity of this stool also brings along the charm of a seemingly young colt learning to get on its own feet.

3. The Dragon Feet:

The greedy mythical figure hoarding gold under the mountain seems to have been tamed and turned into a pet that also wants to draw around the fire and listen to stories, maybe of its past threatening and fierce life.

The Wolf Paws:

Maybe you have a home in the mountains or in the forest, or maybe you have a puppy who sees himself as big and scary, a force to be reckoned with. I love this last stool because it feels like the dog that lies by the fireside, dreaming and barking in his sleep as he dreams of his hunting adventures of the day.
